Hey, Dude!

After 2009’s liquor-and-country-music-fueled Crazy Heart scored actor Jeff Bridges and Grammy-winning songwriter T Bone Burnett an Oscar apiece (Best Actor and Best Original Song), the duo are reuniting for Bridges’ lilting, whiskey-smooth self-titled effort, out this month.

Why a country record?
I made an album a few years ago called Be Here Soon, and after the success of Crazy Heart, I thought now would be a good time to do another one. When I got about 50 to 60 songs, I asked T Bone if he wanted to do it. He got my favorite musicians—like Rosanne Cash, Ryan Bingham, and Sam Phillips—in the studio.

What’s the first record you ever bought?
Buddy Holly’s “Peggy Sue,” a 45. And the Everly Brothers’ “Wake Up Little Susie” was another early influence. And then, I married a Sue.

How will you dress the part onstage?
I might wear jeans, but I guess everybody wears jeans, right? Maybe I could perform in tuxes. I’ve got lots of tuxes.
